Project 2

What are the long-term outcomes for high-risk patients contemplating major surgery as a treatment?

Little information is available to describe long-term outcomes for high-risk patients, either for surgical or nonsurgical treatment pathways. Project 2 has two aims, firstly to gather a set of data resources for the development of computation models forecasting patient outcomes in Project 3. Secondly, to explore long-term outcomes for the surgical-disease population in detail using conventional epidemiological analyses.

By establishing the overall burden of co-morbid disease and healthcare resource use-age, quality of life, and survival in the years following surgery, and in patients receiving non-surgical treatment for the same diseases, we will establish an evidence base to inform and motivate doctors caring for surgical patients.
