Project 4.1

Testing the feasibility of the decision support intervention

This mixed methods study will investigate potential challenges to the intervention in consultations within a clinical trial setting, identify the specific barriers of the intervention and how these may be mitigated / optimised. We will aim to explain the work that individuals and teams do to integrate new processes and interventions into practice, to focus and structure the study.

Video recorded data will be collected for all decision making encounters, allowing direct observation and analysis of the intervention. Semi-structured interviews with all clinicians and research nurses involved will be scheduled at the end of the intervention period to capture the experience from their point of view. Discussions will explore feasibility issues, clinician preparedness, patient acceptance and local contexts. Patients will be invited to participate in a short, semi-structured, telephone interview following their decision making encounter to explore their experience of the process.
