Feasibility study and cluster randomised trial of a decision support intervention for high-risk patients contemplating major surgery
In project 4 we will evaluate the clinical and cost effectiveness of the decision support intervention in a cluster randomised trial of 60 surgeons consenting 572 high-risk patients for major surgery in 40 NHS hospitals. In this project, we will have 20 sites which are randomised to the intervention, and 20 sites which will be randomised for usual care. We hypothesise that better informing patients of likely positive and negative outcomes after surgery will reduce decision regret and favourably impact health related quality of life.
