Mixed method process evaluation of the OSIRIS cluster trial
Our initial analysis will involve repeated viewing of selected decision making consultations, alongside review of interview data with patients and clinicians, to identify questions relating, to the ways in which the intervention shapes communication, for instance whether decision making consultations are longer and more ‘inclusive’; how they differ in the kinds of talk that occurs; and how sensitive topics (such as risk of death or chronic pain) might play out differently.
We will then analyse the video consultation data and explore any differences between features of decision making consultations in Project 1.1 and changes in content and style over time. We will focus on generating in-depth narrative accounts of how the introduction of the intervention has affected the process of shared decision making.
