Project 1 explores the perceptions of high-risk patients and doctors about outcomes after major surgery and how decisions between more or less invasive surgeries, non-surgical treatments and conservative management are currently made.
Project 2 will create a single source of evidence accurately describing long-term outcomes following surgical and non surgical management of three surgical diseases.
Project 3 will develop a decision support intervention for use on a touch-screen tablet computer to improve shared decision making for high-risk surgical patients and their doctors.
Project 4 will confirm the feasibility of intervention use, before evaluating the clinical effectiveness of this technology in a cluster randomised trial, with linked health economic and process evaluations.
